The monthly meeting of tho committee of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held yesterday, and attended by Messrs T. T. Ritchie (president, in tho chair), W. Patrick, A. S. W. R. Gawn, ,J. CJow, J. W. Blair, \V. J. Charters, A. Johnson, 11. M. Driver, D. Andrew, J. Macaiulrew, R. A. SI Cantrcll, G. R. Ritchic, and J. Elliott. A number of exhibitors at the last Summer Show wrote asking that better loadingbank accommodation be provided to enable stock to be more expeditiously trucked.—lt was resolved that favourable consideration bo given to tile suggestion and to refer it to the Grounds Committee to report. Tho President of the Board of Agriculture, Wellington, wrote in reference to the question of noxious weeds, and asked what was the general feeling among farmers in the district represented by the society as to whether it was advisable to have the Act fully enforced in tho whole district or in any portion of it.—lt was resolved to hold the matter over in the meantime, copies of the letter to be sent to each member of tho committee; a reply to be forwarded to the letter after next meeting. The schedule of the forthcoming Winter Show was carefully revised. A considerable number of new classes was added and the prize money in several sections was increased.
A large amount of detail business in connection with the Winter Show was gono into. Numerous suggestions made by exhibitors and others were submitted to the committee, and in many cases the suggestions were embodied in the programme. A handsome trophy, valued at 50 guineas, was presented to the society by Mr William Patrick.—lt was resolved to accept the trophy with thanks, and to awaid it to the factory oheese classes. A sub-committee was appointed to draw up conditions.
Mr J. D. Landells wrote offering a special prize of five guineas for competition at the Winter Show. —It was decided to accept the trophy with thanks, and to award it for most points in the fat sheep class. A number of other trophies were received with thanks.
The District Traffic Manager of Railways, Oiago, wrote stating that a letter from the society relating to the slow conveyance of stock from Christchurch to Dunedin would receive the consideration of the department. The following new members were elected: T. H. Pugh (Ngapuna), D. J. Robertson (Highcliff;, J. B. Bowker (Waimate), T. Lockhead (Balclutha), Martin Pryde (St. Leonards), John Reid (Anderson Bay), J. A. Sutherland (Momona), W. D. Ladbrook (Charlton!, R. W. Trotter (Kurow), J. Hedley (Kokoama), John M'Arthur (Luinsden), and Thomas Jenkins (Dunedin).
