MINING.

Tho secretary of the Success Company reports a return of 330z lfldwt for 100 hours' work. The annual statement of affairs of the Muddy Terrace Sluicing Company shows that since the registration of the company on October 4, 19U6, 84350z of gold, valued at £33,332 14s 3d, were obtained. Last year the amount of gold produced was 15400z, valued at £6168 te 6d. The expenditure since registration totals £73,257. The company employed an average of 25 men for the past year, and , there are 126 shareholders at present on the register. The return for November was 118oz. The December "wash-up is not yet completed. There is a plentiful supply of water at the claim, and the prospects continue to be fair. TALISMAN CONSOLIDATED MINE. During the broken monthly period ended December 19, representing IV days' running, trie Talisman Consolidated Gold Mining Company crushed and treated 3350 tons oi ore, lor a yield ot bullion valued at £17,450 19s. ilie small tonnage treated was due to the fact that the mine- was closet! down for the Christmas holidays. On account of the strike there was no return tor December of 1913. The present return brings the output from tho mine tor the past year to £206,516 10d, or £47,874 6s 8d in excess of the output for 1913, whan the bullion won aggregated £215,641 17s. In 19: j, of course, the Talisman mine was closed: down for several weeks through lack of coal supplies, due to the general strike. Last year 52,210 tons were treated, as against 39.780 tons for the previous .year. The costs for the past month totalled 43s 7d per ton, made up as follows: —Mine development, 14s 10d ; mining, 14s ; milling, 12s Id; general expenses, 2s Bd. Tho total value of the bullion won from the mine to date is £2.368.261 0s 6d, and dividends totalling £965,534 7s 6d have been paid. The superintendent of the mine has despatched the following cablegram to London :—" Driving north from No. 12 winze, from 225 ft to 273 ft, the reef is 36in wide, and the assay value £6 3s 9d; from 273 ft to 291 ft, the reef is 24in wide, and the value nil. Driving south from No. 12 winze, from 195 ft to 219 ft, tho reef is 21in wide, and the value nil; from 219 ft to 228 ft. the reef is 39in wide, and the assay value £2 11s; from 228 ft to 241 ft, tho reef is 42in wide, and the value 2s.
