FREMANTLE, January 14.—Arrived: Moldavia, from London. mm On Saturday last the Union Steam Slhip Company's Moana sailed from San Francisco for Wellington, via ports. The vessel is three days behind her schedule time, and is not expected at Wellington until January 30. Mr F. Bell, late chief officer of the Lauderdale, has ■ joined the Ennerdale in a similar capacity. Mr W. Harrington and Mr C. Goanquist have signed on the Lauderdale as second and third officers respectively. Mr L. Lane, late wireless operator on the Wahine, has joined the Pat'eena in a similar capacity. Captain J. Watson has recommissioned the Kamo at Wellington, and has tho following officers associated with him: —Mr A. M'Kinley, chief officer; Mr J. Paul, second officer; Mr A. Watson, chief engineer; Mr R. Graham, 6ccond engineer; and 3lr O. Koyens, third engineer. Mr R. Craig has signed on the Ennerdale as chief engineer, and Mr F. Kilgour as second. Mr C. Hales-West, third engineer of the Takapuna, had the misfortune to have his hand crushed in the vessel's engine-room on Saturday. Ho came ashore at Wellington for treatment. Captain Dryden has taken command of the Taviuni, and has associated with him the following officers:—Chief, Mr F. L. G. Jaunay; second, Mr E. J. M'Clellan. Mr J. Gilbert is chief engineer, and Mr A. Johnson second. Mr A. S. Young, second engineer of tho Kaitoa, has been succeeded by Mr P. Burnes. The Anglo-Brazilian sailed early yesterday morning for Oarnaru, where sho will load ■wool for London. . The Timaru dredge will come out of the old dock to-day, and, after the dock has been pumped out to permit tho relaying of the keel blocks, tho Wanaka will go into it for overhaul. Tho Tarawera will vacate tho big dock to-day, and her placo will bo taken by the Tahiti, and when the latter has been cleaned and painted she will be followed by the Maunganui. The Now Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Otaki is at present discharging in Australian ports, and, after putting out tho remainder of her oargo, she will come over to New Zealand ports for Homeward loading. The Westralia arrived yesterday morning from Auckland, via East Coast ports, and ■will take her departure this afternoon for northern po»ts. Under charter to the A. and A. Lino, tho cargo steamer El Cordobes is expected to visit Wellington on Saturday from New York, via Auckland. After calling at Lyttelton to put ont cargo sho should reach Dunedin about the middle of next week.

Mr J. Appleton has joined the Ennerdale as second officer. The Russian ship Pampa, -which recently landed Marseilles tiles at Dunedin and Lyttelton, has been stuck -up at the latter port for several days owing to desertions from her crew. As'rmioh as £8 per month has been offered by her captain for sailors to take the vessel to Portland, Oregon. According to returns compiled by Lloyd's Register, 105 steamers and sailing ships, aggregating 112.509 tons, were totally lost, condemned, etc., during the ouarter ended June 30. In addition 15 steamers, of 24.474 tons gross, and 13 sailing ships, of 9031 tons, were broken up, etc. Tho local agents of the Nippon Yusen Kaieha (Messrs William K. Reynolds and Oo.) are in receipt of advice that hereafter the company's steamers, both Homeward and outward run, will call at Zamboiuiga, in the Phillipine Islands. Znmhoanga is on open port to the south of the province of the samo name, and has an increasing trade both in exports and imports. Early yesterday morning the steamer Skip ton Castle arrived off the Heads from Xew York, via Panama and northern ports. Sho remained At anchor until the tido served, when she came up to Duncdin, where she will continue her discharge. After putting out her Dunedin cargo tho Slkipton Castlo will proceed to Melbourne and Sydney to land tho balance.
