In answer to questions in the House of Lords* Earl Kitchener said that the six new armies being organised included Indians but excluded Colonials, who had not yet been sufficiently trained. Arrangements were being made to keep up the strength of the depleted Indian units. LONDON, January 8. The Morning Post's Paris correspondent writes— "Rumania has definitely arranged for the United States to attend to Rumanian interests in Berlin and Vienna."
LONDON, January 7. The Unionist papers are advocatini compulsory military service in Britain. The Daily Telegraph says: " Withou the numbers which alone can annihilat the enemy, the prospect in Flanders am France is one of mutual exhaustion cons« quent on a condition of stalemate." The Morning Post thinks that after fiv months of war Britain ought to be Tioldin: more than 30 miles of the battle line seeing that Russia alone holds from 50 to 700 miles. The Daily Chronicle, on the other hand believes that 30,000 men weekly are stil being enlisted, and compulsion would un doubtedly irritate many otherwise patrioti men into saying " Wait until we are com pelled." "Another matter,'' says the Chronicle " about which the public hope to hoa some reassurances is that of our coas defences. Many people have left the coas towns because of the uncertainty."
