THE GENERAL ELECTION
♦ "A DARK HORSE." NORTHERN MAORI MEMBER. (Per United Phess Association.) AUCKLAND, January 7. Tan Henare, the Northern Maori member, stated to a roport?r to-day that he had not been elected as a supporter of either Mr Massey or Sir Joseph \Vard. Ho stood ■Iβ an Independent, and contested the election without the help of either party. He had been returned pledged only to do hie best for his constituents. " I'm a dark horse," he said, " and absolutely no one knows what I will do with my vote." At present there is a movement to upset the election on account of the alleged bungling of a return ng officer. If the anpeal succeeded, Mr Hcnarc snid h> would again be a candidate, probably as an Independent. He gave the chiefs the opportunity of discussing the position, so that they might indicate their new vote, as they wore evenly divided, but ho was left now to pursue his own course. BAY OF ISLANDS.
