TECHNICAL COLLEGE

BREAK-UP OF DAY SCHOOL. The pupils of the day school held a social evening on Tuesday, and the formal break--sng-up oeremony took place yesterday morning. The Director briefly reviewed tho operations for the year, and made special reference to the large amount of practical work done by the pupile in connection wth the removal from the old building and in levelling and fencing the new grounds. Mr T. Sooth, chairman of the Board of Managers, emphasised the importance of the grounding given in the day department of the Technical College, which, during the year had been availed of by 280 pupils. He pointed out that the great success and popularity of the commercial department was owing to the fact that eight teachers were provided for the eight subjects—each subject thus being taught by a specialist Hβ also referred to tbe value of the practical work done in the domestio department Speaking of the reoent appointment of an instructor-in-ohief for the mechanical engineering department, Mr Soott expressed the opinion tihat next year this department, owing to the equipment of the workshop and the fall staff provided, would offer to mechanics facilities for instruction hitherto unequalled in these parts. Mr Soott ooncluded by urging the young people to take advantage of tEe provision made for instruction in woodwork, stating, incidentally, that the woodwork display prepared by the boys for the recent bazaar wae very favourably commented on by visitors competent The following is the honors list:— INDUSTRIAL COURSE.
