THE CATLINS RAILWAY TIMETABLE.
Sir,—After waiting patiently for the completion of the Oatlins railway we thought we, in this neighbourhood, would get a "square deal" when the new time-table was issued. We have, however, got a handful of " rags." South of Catlins River station we cannot get to Owaka, Balclutha, or Dunedin and return tho same day. There is no train on Wednesdays and Fridays. How are we to got to Clutha or Owaka sales? Foot it or ride to Catlins River, as we did of old, and thousands wasted on a railway line! The more tho new time-table is digested the less use there appears to be for the thousands expended upon buildings, engine sheds, station master's and other residences at Maclennan. If the Upper Catlins and Tahakopa settlers are to be brushed aside thus rudely, then at the ballot-box on De.combur 10 let us speak with no uncertain sound regarding what we think of the Railway Department in general, and its local officials in particular. We enjoy a regular daily service under present conditions. This will be swept away under the new time-table. The more the new scheme is studied the less is thought of it and its compilers.—l am, etc., Disgusted. Pukctiro, November 26.
