Drapery and General Importing Co. of New Zealand, Limited. STATEMENTS Have been freely made in Dunedin since the outbreak of War that certain Companies trading in New Zealand are in effect German Companies. THE D.LC Having been named in this connection, the Directors requested Messrs William Brown & Co., the wellknown firm of Accountants and Auditors, to investigate the Company's Books, and have received the following Certificate from them : THE DIRECTORS, THE DRAPERY AND GENERAL IMPORTING COMPANY, OF NEW ZEALAND, LIMITED, DUNEDIN. Gentlemen, — In accordance with your instructions that we furnish an analysis of the addresses of Shareholders in the D.1.C., we beg to report that we have examined the Share Register and other Share records of that Company, and have found that the members are domiciled as follows: — New Zealand and Chatham Island 2,131 Great Britain and Ireland 20 Australia 13 Germany 6 Total 2,170 The Shareholders resident in Germany are two sons and four daughters of original founders of the Company who lived in Melbourne and London. The sons acquired their holding of 8,178 Ordinary Shares of ten shillings each by inheritance. The daughters obtained their 24,534 Ordinary Shares by transfer from their father in January, 1907. On the issue of £1 Preference Shares in June, 1906, the daughters acquired portion of their present holding of 28,500 such Shares by purchase from moneys given them by their father from his New Zealand capital, and later on the balance by Shares transferred to them under his Will. The total holding of the six members referred to may be summarised as foDows: — 32,712 Ordinary Shares of 10/ each £16,356 28,500 Preference Shares of 20/ each ... 28,500 Total £44,856 The Dividends payable on the above Shares as at 20th August last are retained in New Zealand in accordance with present regulations. The Company is a New Zealand concern, which is now, and always las been, managed by Directors resident in the Dominion. Its paidip capital is £241,708. , Yours faithfully, WILLIAM BROWN AND CO. The above statement shows the exact position in to the Company's shares held by persons now residing in Germany, but ALL OF THEM OF BRITISH BIRTH, and whose shares were acquired with BRITISH CAPITAL, NOT ONE SHILLING OF MONEY has ever COME FROM OUTSIDE THE BRITISH EMPIRE FOR INVESTMENT in the D.I.C".
