A return of 30oz sdwt for a week's work is reported from tho Electric No. 1 dredge.
Tho local director of tho Roaring Meg Sluicing Company reports that tho existcnco of wash below the layer of silt and clay has been found, and a cut is now being taken ui> on the west side. Nothing is yet known as to the quality of tho wash. Operatfons have been hindered to a considerable extent by rough weather. Tho master of the Success tlredgo reports that tho return of 340z lldwt for tho week ended tho Ist inst. was won from practically tho same length of tho out as during the previous week, and as buried timber was not so plentiful, tho dredge had a good run. The ground is unchanged in depth, naturo, and value. The rnuchinery is running well. 'lTio winze was down 123ift, and holed through to the roof of tho footwall drive in tho Now Sylvia mine, Thames, last week. Tho Norfolk roef did not assay, although it carried a good deal of mineral. Tho north drive at tho low level, New Waitaia mine, Kuaotunu, has been extended 18ft, within the last 10 days. Tho reef was 18in wide, and gavo a fair dish prospect in the loose, and showed nice dabs of gold in tho centre of the hard stone. No. 2 rise was up 128 ft, which should bo high enough, tho manager gays, to connect with the winze from No. 5 level. As far as could bo judged 1-jsfc week, the riso appeared to have gone up on a loop reef. MOUNT LYELI. MINE. Picas Association— By Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, November 6. Tho Mount Lyell monthly report to October 28 is 27,168 tons of ore treated, producing 642 tons of blister copper, containing 655 tons of copper, 38770z of silver, and 7780z of gold. The half-yearly report to September 30 shows a net profit of £29,317, after -writing off £11,417 for_ mine prospecting and £17,376 for depreciation of mine plant. No dividend will be declared.
