CLYDE NOTES
(From Oub Own Correspondent.) CLYDE, September 28. The orchardists are still busy doing cultivating work, and the small fruit crop, such as strawberries, gooseberries, and currants, should be fairly largo this season, judging by tho number of plants. It is said that there is a likelihood oi the Hon. W. Eraser being returned unopposed for Wakntipu, owing to the interest he has displayed in pushing forward the Otago Central railway. In any case, no matter what the opposition may he, ho would presumably have an easy win. In th<* Otago Central electorate the present member will probably be opposed by a Liberal supporter, but so far no name is authoritatively mentioned in that respect. Some complaints (;ind not without rr-nson) have been made about' the state of the Clyde-Cromwell road since railway formation has started, and protests have, it is understood, been forwarded to the Government about the matter. Fairly solid work is being done on the railway, and the results aro ?o far creditable alike to tho officials and workers.
