The Revs. B. Dudley, formerly of Bluff, has notified the officials of his church of his intention to leave Geraldine at the end of the present connexional year. Or H. B. .Sorensen, who has acted as Deputy Mayor for the past few years, has decided (says the Press) to become a candidate lor the mayoralty of Christchurch at the next election. The Rev. W. T. Drake, recently attached to the Anglican parish of Lhinstan, and now appointed vicar at Naseby, was entertained by the parishioners in Cromwell at a farewell complimentary social on Wednesday evening, hi 6 popularity being evinced by the large attendance. During the social Mr Drake was presented with a purse of sovereigns from hift Cromwell parishioners, and he also received simliar presentations n other centres of the parish. Cornpliinentarj reference to Mr Drake accompanied the gifts. At a meeting of the Timaru Presbytery on, Friday a hearty call from the St. Andrew's congregation. South Canterbury, to the Rev. T. N. Cuttle, of Milburn, wassustained. It was stated (says the Herald) that Mr Cuttle intended to accept the call The induction was, contingently upon the decision of the Clutha Presbytery, fixed for October 23. The Rev. R. Wilson, of Reefton, has acecpted an invitation to the pastorate- of the Gore Methodist Church, in succession to the Rev. M. A. R. Pratt, who has accepted a call to Hastings (says the Mataura Ensign). The transfers will not take effect until April, and they are subject to the approval of the Methodist Conference, which will meet at Chrisfchurch in February. Mr Wilson entered the ministry in 1900, and has held pastorates at Roslyn, Dannevirke, Petone, and Reefton. Mr Hay, a respected farmer of Church Bay, X,yttelton. died at his residence on Friday (says the Lyttelton Times*;. He was born at the Shetland Islands m IP3B, and when about 20 years of age emigrated to Victoria, where he took part 'h the great gold rusji. He remained there for a short while only, and then came to New Zealand, and took part in the Gabriel's Gully gold rush. He then returned to Scotland, coming back to New Zealand again in the ship Brothers' Pride, arriving at Lyttelton in 1!X)3. He leaves a grown-up family of three sons and two daughters.
