TAIERI DRAINAGE BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Western Taieri Land Drainage Board was held yesterday ; present—Messrs J. T. Gibson (chairman), W. Thomson, Jas. Miller, D. Doull, and 0. Campbell. engineer's REPORT. The Engineer reported that the raising of the lake embankment from the contour channel outlet to the creek was progressing, and the low part around Buchanan's pro- j perty, a distance of 33 chains, had practically been completed; about 35 chains of the Berkley centre drain had been cleaned out and deepened. The men had been taken off this work in the meantime, and had been sent to assist in completing the lake embankment. The contour channel below Mr Sootts boundary had been cleaned out, resulting in the water level at Mr Sinclair's outlook box being lowered about five inches. The new concrete culvert over the B drain into Sir George M'Lean's property had been constructed, and willows had been planted on a part of the Taieri River embankment above the Henley bridge to prevent further erosion at this point, j Seed had been sown on the contour channel embankments from above the MomonaMaungatua road and on part of the Taieri River embankment, near tho contour station at Outram, which had recently been strengthened. Some subsidiary work in connection with the upper contour channel had been carried out, and some of the drains leading to Patrick's pump had been cleaned out. The drain on the south side of Lee Creek, from B drain upwards, and the C drain were to be cleaned out, and the upper end of Kirk's road drain was to be regraded and extended towards Patrick's pump, a total distance of 30 chains. The different contractors were making good progress with their works. The report was adopted. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £612 3s 5d were passed for payment. CORRESPONDENCE. M William Petrio wrote, applying to have h ; s property at Berwick classified.— Received, the matter to bo attended to. Mr Pi. Robinson wrote asking the board to have the drain leading from his rmmp site, down tho inner side of the embankment towards tho new pump site, cleaned out.—Tho engineer was instructed to carry out this work immediately. Messrs Hugh Sutherland and John Miller each applied to have their compensation claims, for land taken by tho board, naid promptly.—lt was decided to nay thrs" claim? immediately the loan money applied for by the board was'available.
