m DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE. A bright tone pervadod the local share market at the beginning of the week, but latterly it has been realised that the war is likely to last for many months, and in. consequence the market has settled down, and during the past three days has been very quiet indeed. A fair margin has separated buyera and sellers, and in tho absenceof anything to cause prices to fluctuate to any extent, very Jittlo business has been transacted. Dredging and sluicing shares have had no business. Nokomai Hydraulics have had inquiry daily up to £1 Is 6d, with no sellers ■under £1 2s 6d. Auckland quartz mining lines have become steadier during tho past few days. Waihis were disposed of at £1 13s on Monday, and had reported business yesterday at £1 12s the market closing at £1 12s 3d and £1 12s 9d. Wailii Grand Junctions have eased from £1 3e and £1 5s 9d on Monday to £1 2a 9d and £1 3s Id yesterday. A s'alo was effected on Wednesday at £1 3s 6cl, Talisman Coneolidatcds-" have displayed little movement throughout the week. Prices have remained in tho vicinity of £1 7s and £1 Bs', buyer and seller respectively. Taking into consideration tho present unsettled state of affairs, the prices of all investment stocks have continued at a very eatisfactory lovej. Buying offers for National Banks have eased slightly to £5, with no sellers under £5 7s. Bank of New Ztalands, both old and new issues, have had firm inquiry up to £10 and £15 respectively, but a wide margin has separated sellers from buyers, and no business has been reoorded or reported. Insurance lines have not como in for so much inquiry as usual. Sellers have been fairly freely quoted, but no business has resulted. Union Steams have shown an upward tendency. Business was reported on Thiu-adv at £1 2s 7d, tho market closing yesterday with sellers at £1 2s 6d. without declared buyers. Tho preferential issue had Inquiry yesterdav at 19s 4d. with sellers raking £1 0s 6d. Buyers of Westport Coal have continued firm trp to £1 9s 6d, with sellers at £1 10s 3d. Sellers of other investment lines havo been quoted fairly freely, but latterly the demand has fallen off somewhat. New Zoaand Paper Mills wero disposed of early in the week at 17s 3d.
