Mr Philip Snowden, M.P., and Mrs Snowdcn arrived in New Zealand from England By tho Marama, which reached Auckland yesterday morning.
Our correspondent telegraphs that the death of two well-known residents of .Cromwell is reported—Mr John Leys, at the ago of 79 years, and Mrs Thomas Johnston, at the ago of 65 years. Prior to his departure from Nasoby to hake up an appointment in Christchurch, the Rov. W. Rankin was met by a largo number of his Naseby friends and presented with a purse of sovereigns as a mark of the high esteem in which he is held , by the community (says our correspondent). Several speeches of a eulogistic nature were made, wishing him every success in his new sphere. Mr R. Vincent, who died suddenly at Christckurch yesterday morning • was, no doubt, well known to many Dunedin cricketers (telegraphs our correspondent). He was an enthusiast in the game, and was for a number of years a member of tho Council of tho New Zealand Cricket Association. He was a lawyer by profession, having taken his LL.B. degree at Canterbury College. He served his articles with Mr (now Mr Justice) Stringer, and purchased tho practice of Mr 11. Y. Widdowson when_ the latter -was made a" stipendiary magistrate at Dunedin.
