Prior to his departure from Nasoby to hake up an appointment in Christchurch, the Rov. W. Rankin was met by a largo number of his Naseby friends and presented with a purse of sovereigns as a mark of the high esteem in which he is held , by the community (says our correspondent). Several speeches of a eulogistic nature were made, wishing him every success in his new sphere. Mr R. He was an enthusiast in the game, and was for a number of years a member of tho Council of tho New Zealand Cricket Association. He was a lawyer by profession, having taken his LL.B. degree at Canterbury College. He served his articles with Mr (now Mr Justice) Stringer, and purchased tho practice of Mr 11. Y.
