CITY POLICE COURT.
Thursday, Septembeb 24. (Before Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M.) Drunkenness.—Thomas Husscy, for being drunk, was lined ' 10s, in default 48 Jiojrs' imprisonment. Theft.—William Railton was charged that, on or about September 14, at Dunedin, he did steal one pair of plumber's shears, valued at 13s bd, the property of Robert Price.—Accused pleaded "Guilty."'—Chief Detective Herbert stated that Railton stole the shears from the complainant's el, op and pawned them for 3s, giving the n.vrne of 'William Johnston. He then the j-awn ticket for 2s 6d. Accuscd Jiad not been previously convicted, but was .suffering from \ the effects of drink. While he wus.c.iink- i ing he wasted his lime, and his wj.'e had to go out to work to support the l.innly. There was a prohibition order -*i xisie.ieo against him. —Mr J. H. Hancock stated that the accused belonged to a tfchlv respectable family, and drink had got him into trouble. —Tho Magistrate warned accused, that if he continued t) drink snd waste his time he would be sent to Rote Roa. He would convict him and order hmi to come up for sentence when t-a.bd at any time within six raoidis, tho conditions being that he be of •jood Iwhaviour. abi'.ain from drinking; and -efund the 5s bd Maintenance.—John -Otto Rankin was charged with failing to pay 7s 6d per week in support of his wife. The arrears on the ' order amounted to £24 up to April 27 last. —Defendant, who did not appear, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, his I release being conditional on the payment of the arrears.
