OBITUARY
LORD MERTHYR. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, August 27. (Received August 28, at 6.5 p.m.) The death is reported of Baron Merthyr, in his 78th year. Lord Merthyr was a krge colliery proprietor, of Merthyr Tydvil, in South Wales, lio was a member of the Council of Civil Engineers, Past President of tho South Wales Institute of Engineers, and Past President of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers. Ho was tho founder of the sliding scale of tho' Monmouthshiro and South Wales Coal Association, and of the Monmouthshire and South Wales Miners' Provident Association. He served on. several royal commissions dealing with the mining industry, and also a court of arbitration. The successor to tho baronage is his son, the Hon. Herbert Clark Lewis.
