CITY POLICE COURT.

«. Wednesday, July B.' (Before Mr H. Y. Widdowson, SJH.) A Street Obstruction.—James Caskio pleaded not guilty to a charge of leaving a building obstruction unlighted in Castle street. —The defendant stated that the lamp had been lighted in the early part of the evening, but it must have been stolen, as it had disappeared.—After hearing the evidence of Sergeant M'Keefrey the magistrate imposed a fine of 5s and coste (7s). Unlighted Vehicles.—David Shaw, William Wood, Sidney Dyer, Harry Walker, and John Scott each pleaded guilty to a charge of riding a bicycle in Castle street without a light.—His Worship imposed a fine of 5s and. costs (7s) in each case, with the exception of Scott, who was ordered to pay costs only. Stanley Partridge and Archibald Meikle, who did not appear, wero each fined 5s and costs (7 s). Lloyd Hayden and Frederick Tanner were fined 5s and costs for driving unlighted vehicles, and John Bartlott, on a similar charge, was ordered to pay costs (7s). By-law Offences. —Frank Stockdalo did not appear in answer to a charge of riding a motor-cycle round the corner of Princes and High streets at a greater speed than four mile 6 an hour.—On hearing tho evidence of Constable Amies his Worship inflicted a fine of 10s and costs (7s). Alfred Hall pleaded not guilty to a. charge of driving a vehicle from George into the Octagon on tho wrong side of the road, and a lengthy argument ensued between the defendant and Constable Geddes. —The Magistrate said he would accept the evidence of the constable. The man had committed a technical breach and would be fined 5s and coste (76).
