GOOD TIME COMING
TRADE PROSPECTS GOOD
PRIME MINISTER'S ANTICIPATIONS.
(From Oca Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, July 8.
An optimistic reply to a, deputation was made by the Prime Minister to-day on the subect of trade* prospects, lor the coming year. Jt had l>een represented to him tluit thcro was so niuiJi unemployment that the Government should. be carol ul with its immigration policy.
As a mutter of fact." fiaid Mr Masscy,
'' so far ais farm labour and domestic latiour are concerned, there is plenty of ernployniont; indeed, the demand is unsatisfied. I have received a. number of communications from farmers' organisations complaining that farmers are compcl'ml to go out of growing cereal* on account of the scarcity of suitable* labour. So far aa ordinary employment is concerned, there was an impression that we were going to have a hard winter. The Ijalkoiir Department informs me that it is able to find employment for aJI able-bodied applicants who ecano along on the- variou.-! pul/lic works going on in different parte of t,h<\ dominion. We are going to have a
' boom' time in tho spring and summer, I fancy, and there will be, a treimendous demand for all classes of labour." He said that the only immigrants who wore assisted by tho Government were domestic servants anel farm labourers.
