MAYORAL ELECTIONS
.«_ i Cr Marlow addressed tho electors of i North-Eist Valley on Saturday night. There ; was a very good attendance. Cr Begg (the i chairman), in introducing the candidate, ref ferrcd in eulogistic terms to Cr Marlow's i grip of council business—the trading depart- • ments in particular,—and said that, whether 1 one differed from him or not, one had to i admit that Cr Marlow always took up a [ straightforward, manly attitude. Cr Marlow, who was cordially received, reviewed the year's work of tho council and - dealt fully with the requirements of the : trading (departments. The position with 1 regard to Waipori and the Waipori-Berwiok - road were fully explained. During the speech applause was frequent, and -at. its close Mr Evans moved, and Messrs Smith and Mowat supported, the following motion :—" That this meeting of electors is t of the opinion that Cr Marlow is the most, l qualified candidate for the mayorality, and ! undertakes to do all in power to eeoure, , his return." The motion was unanimously ' carried. The three speakers referred in complimentary terms to tho forcible and . clear nature" of the address. A vote of [ thanks to the ' chairman terminated: the . meeting. A strong local committee was afterwards formed, and it was reported thatthe candidate's prospects in North-East Valley were very bright.
