A cablegram from Sydney states that Sir Joseph NVard is a passenger by the Maunganui, which left bnat port for Wellington on Saturday. Mr J. H. B. Coatee, general manager of : the National Bank, is paying a. short visit to Duuedm prior to his departure for Great 1 , Britain.. He will be a passenger by the Marama from Auckland on May 8. The Rev. Dr Kennedy, rector of £t. Patrick's College, Wellington, and the Rev. Dean Holley, of WanganUi, have been selected to accompany Dean Regnaylt in . the representation of New Zealand at tho General Chapter of the Marist Order to be I held in Belgium slater in the year. i Mr N. Wildermoth, who has been on i tho Invercargill staff of Messrs Sargood, [ Son, and Ewcn (Limited) for the last ten years, and who has accepted, a position on the Dunedin staff, was, prior to his departure from Invercargill on Wednesday (says tho Southland News), presented with a. gold watch, suitably engraved. Mr Wildermoth '. would, the paper added, be missed in musi--5 cal and cricketing circles, in which he took a very active part. The Wellington correspondent of the Lyttelton Times states that tho Commissioner of the Land and Income Tax Department, Mr John M. King, is about ,to retire from that position owing to ill-health. Mr King underwent a serious operation and recently spent several weeks in hospital. He joined tho civil service in 1879, and has been com- ; missioner for several years. His total service in the department amounts to nearly ■ 35 years.
