ALEXANDRA NOTES
(Fbom Oob Own Cobbeapondent.) ALEXANDRA, Apiil 18. A foretaste of winter, with a sharp, white frost, was felt last night. The days, however, are beautifully clear and crisp. Cr Charles Murphy has, announced himself as a candidate for the Mayoralty against the Mayor (Mr E. Maslin), who seeks re-election. Mr R. Macnamara, a pioneer settler of Galloway Flat, and a shipmate from Victoria in '1859 by the Rangitata with the late Thomas Bracken, the poet, was entertained at a farewell social in the Gallowav School last night, and • presented by Mr E. A. Gadd, on behalf of the people, with a purse of sovereigns. Mr Macnamara is one of our Central Otago 6ports. He has sold his farm, and he and his wife intend to settle in Alexandra and enjoy the sunset of life on a well-deserved competence. A large number of Alexandra people attended the gathering to do honour to Mr and Mrs Macnamara, who have resided on Galloway for 40 years. At a recent horse fair in the Bay of Plenty, Mr Fabian Spam, late, of Alexandra, topped the market in a sale of 600 horses with a three-year-old gelding at £40 ss. __________
