PROPOSED AMENDMENT OF THE ACT.

(P«R TjHITUn i'RXM* Aj«OCIATIOH.) WELLINGTON, February 24. The By-laws Committee of the City Council waited on the Hon. H. D. Bell (Minister of Internal Affairs) regarding the street-widening section of the Public Works Act. The deputation stated that the operation of the section had not resnlted in zny street being widened, and asked that the council be given powers which were now enjoyed by the Government to exornpt any street from the operation of the statute. Mr Bell said ho had been considering the matter with considerable care, and he proposed, "with, the approval of his colleagues, to bring down an amendment to the Act in that direction next session.
