Drunkenness.—A first offender was fined ss, in detault, 48 hours' imprisonment.-: A fine of 20s, or three days' imprisonment, was imposed on John Sheeny, 'who had several previous convictions recorded' against him. Tnomas Buddicom, charged with being found helplessly drunk on Vvednesday on tne Wingatui racecourse,. was remanded for a week for medical treatment. Jol:n William Bambery pleaded l- l\ot guilty" to a charge of bemg drunk while m cnarge of two horses and a vehicle.—Sub : :nspcetur Fouhy stated that the man had been found lying drunk in an express in the Octagon, with nobody else iu charge.—William Waite, the owner of the express, stated that ho had left his vehicle to go to the coffee stall. While there the brother ol accused said he would look alter the horses until he (witness) came back.—The magistrate said it was not likely that a drunken man would be left in charge of horses. The charge might bo> reduced to merely one of drunkenness. —Bambery pleaded "Guilty" to the reduced charge, and was fined ss, or, in default, 48 hours' imprisonment, and 'ho was ordered to pay 6s expenses. Prohibition Order.—A prohibition order, having a currency of 12 months, was granted against a man on tho application of his employer. Alleged Theft.—William Kelly was charged with attempting to steal, on February 18, the sum of £2, the property of William Rush. —Sub-inspector Fouhy said that there were other charges pending against the accused, and, on his application, the hearing of the case was postponed until Monday. Bail was granted accused in his own recognisance of £30 and two sureties < f £15 eacfc.
