PROPOSED EXPLORATION

Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, February 19. (Received Feb. 19, at 9.55 p.m.) Sir Rupert Clarke is organising an expedition which will be led by himself, and consisting of three other whites, all of whom are acquainted with the territory, and 20 natives. They will proceed by motor boat to explore Papua.

The expedition will start in May. It aims at penetrating further inland than Sir William M'Gregor s Fly River expedition in 1890. The explorers will examine the lands with a view to development purposes aiid the prospects of gold and precious tstones. The leader hopes to discover new and rare bird 6 and animals, and to establish friendly relatione with the natives.

Sir Kupert Clarke declares' that he is going to do something or come to grief. •
