RELIGIOUS ENTHUSIASTS

HOLINESS CULT. STRANGE ALLEGATIONS. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. NEW YORK, February 18. At Newton (Illinois) two lads showed cuts and bruises in court during the trial of four religious enthusiasts belonging to a so-called holiness cult. The lads alleged that they were ill-treated during the church services. The enraged spectators thereupon seized the pastor (a man named Lyons), beat and kicked him, and attempted to lynch him. The sheriffs, however, with a special force, rescued the pastor. The mob also made a second attempt when the accused was being led off to prison, pending an appeal against a fine.
