DUNED.N'S REPLY,
Which is the more weighty proof—a few words from a Dunedin resident, whom we know and respect, or volumes from strangers in distant towns? There can bo only one reply. /
JVlr T. A. Wilby, 23 Edwin street, Caversham, Dunedin, says:—-'.For some time my wife suffered terribly with her kidneys. She had an awful pain in her back, which, at times, completely crippled her. Other symptoms of kidney disorder were, dropsical swellings on , her legs, ankles, and knees, puffiness under the eyes, dizzy feelings, and urinary trouble. No one knows how much she suffered, and I often used to wonder if ever she would be well again We tried everything we heard of as a cure for disordered kidneys, but nothing did her the least bit of good. Doan's Backache Kidney Pills were eventually brought under our notice, and, as a last resource I persuaded my wife to try them. They 'are wonderful Pills, and no mistake. The first botte or_so relieved her a little, and 12 bottles effected a complete and permanent cure. I say 'permanent,' because two years have elapsed since Doan's Backache Kidney Pills cured her, and she has had no return of her old complaint since " If you are sick or "foel*badly" begin taking Doan's Backache Kidney Pills at once, for as soon as your kidneys are well they will help all the other organs to health. A trial will convince anyone Doan's Backache Kidney Pills are sold by all chemists and storekeepers at 3s per bottle (six bottles, 16s 6d), or. will be posted on receipt of price by Foster-M'ClellanCo., 76 Pitt street, Sydney. But, be sure you get DOAN'S.
— Robert Browning, one day in 1860. bought for the aum of eightpence a bundle of old legal documents which he found offered for sale on an open stall in a market square of .Florence. From this "old yellow book." which contained the details of a murder trial held in Rome in 1698, Browning evolved his wondrous poem, "The and the Book." It required the genius of a poet to immortalise the sordid tragedy, and the world has gained much by the work of Browning. It is thus somewhat daring for Sir Frederick Treves to repeat the story in prose, going faithfully by the book, and even showing where Browning, for artistic or other reasons, departed from recorded facts. Fortunately, another aim has animated the author of "The Country of 'The Ring and the Book' " (Cassell). The real object of Cir Frederick Treves is to make the reader acquainted with the country where the scenes of the tragedy are laid.
