ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
(Pur. Dmitid Przsi Association.) AUCKLAND, February 18. A middle-aged Maori named Toko Wirihaua, whose wife is away from home, was found dead in bed in Cross street by a labourer named John Perry at 7.15 a ; m. today. Toko wad lying in a double bed, with the blankets soaked in blood, and a bloodstained razor was found near the body. The jugular vein had boon eeveml, and there wore two fihort, deep wounds in the neck. Last night Toko deemed calm and collected, and gave no indication that he contemplated taking hie life. WANOANLT. A married man named Claude Woodcock, of Mosslown. had his chest severely crushed while working in the freezing chamber at Castlecliff to-day. He was removed to tho hospital. WELLINGTON, February 18.
Frank H. Christie, aged 70, a farmer from Wangiinui, who was knocked Sown by a tramear in Cuba street Inst, night and removed to the hospital suffering from serious injuries to his head, dird this evening. BLENHEIM, February 18.
Charles Turner, farmer, aged about. 45 to 50 years, committed suicide by hanging himself this morning at Cnnva-stown. ile had j-uet taken over a. farm at, tho Sounds. A lad named Stanley Slado, who died in the bospitaJ yesterday, was one of tho "Scdgwick boys," and was employed by Mr Cr. 0. Marshall, of Turakitia. On Sunday lie borrowed a horee to ride to church. Tlio anirnai bolted and throw him. and lie unfortunate lad sustained injuries which resulted fatally. WAITARA, February 18.
While bathing in tho sea off Wiaiongona Mr N. Day, assistant master at thn Waifcira. School, met with a. peculiar accident. Ho was swimming with what is known as tho ermvl stroke, when ho suddenly felt his right shoulder give out. Several companions raw his predicament, and rendered assistance, and afterwards put the shoulder t«ck in position. The operation was painful at the time.
From inquiries made at the Hospital Ir.sfc night it was ascertained that the Chinam.in, Sow Lup, who was admitted the prevfojs evonirwr in an unconscious condition, had partially regained consciousness.
