OTTAWA, January 29. , A number of influential members of Parliament are implicated in charges of -corruption that have been made by a certain paper. It is feared that further revelations would gravely weaken Sir W. Laurier's party.
QUEBEC, January 30.
(Received Jan. 30, at 10.50 p.m.) Following on the allegations published in the Montreal Daily Mail accusing three members of the Legislature of graft in connection with a concession for the formation of a Montreal Fairs Association, tho editors were summoned to the bar of the House. They gave the names of the men whom they accused, and these members thereupon resigned their seats.
The proofs were gained by Detective Buttinger, who seemed election as a director of the Fairs Association in order to get evidence against the accused. Detective Buttinger has since been appointed chief of the . New York police.
The Legislature ordered an investigation. It is understood that the members who have resigned intend to take legal action to clear themselves.
