CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER
YOUNG WOMAN ARRESTED.

CiIiSBORNE, January 30. Jo-night tiio police arrested Grace Wood, a ged on a charge of the manslaughter of her illegitimate child, -which was iound dead at Waimata. on the 18th tout. An inquest on the body of the child was heard this afternoon before the coroner, Mr J/ioranee. Evidence was given that the mother of the child was living with her uncle at Waimata. The ■ girl was expecting confinement in April, but on the 18th tost, the uncle an<J h:s wife went to their mere's room and found the girl standing near r.he door in her nightdress and n new born child m the room. They considered the child dead. After hearing the evidence a. verdict was returned that the cliild was born alive at Waimata on or about January 13, and died shortly afterwards in consequence of want of proper care and the neglect of its mother.
