With more settled weather during the latter part of December and a continuance of the same during the opening days of January crops are rapidly assuming that golden hue in appearance (save the Oamaru Mail) that indicates their safe deliverance from the trying experiences that beset them in tho earlier stages of growth. This is as true of North Otago as of other places. Already some of the. earliest crone have been cut. and as tho days go by the number of reapers at work will bo increased. There are instances wh«re crops are attacked by blight or other peste, but on the whole tho grain yield is expected to be high, and anv shortages there may bn as compared with previous yoa.rs will probably be due to tho fact that farmers are now devoting* more attention to dairying and giving less time to the growing , of grain.
