WEST COAST JUBILEE.
CELEBRATIONS AT KUMARA. (pEn United Phess Association.) HOKITIKA, January '12. Jubilee Day was celebrated at Ross on Saturday, and at Kuinara to-day. The main streets of the towns were very prettily decorated, the arches being especially fine. To-day the Mayor oi Kumara (Mr J. A. Murdock) extended a hearty welcome to the pioneers. Speeches ■were ako given by Messrs Robertson (May-r of Lawrence), Joseph Grimmond, A. S. Malcolm, M.P., and G. W. Russell, M.F. Tho speakers thanked the Kumara people for the welcome, the weather, which was not favourable, providing a text for facetious references to the old miners, who used to pray for rain in order to havo pood wash-ups. Tho Vice-regal party arrh .d at noon from Groytnouth, and tho assemblage gave them a hearty reception, the Mayor making an appropriate speech. An address was then presented his Excellency, who duly acknowledged the sentiments expressed therein. The visitors wore entertained at lunch. The weather wae too wet to carry out tho outdoor programme, and the procession and visits to the old mining sites, etc., ae originally planned, so an adjournment was made to the Adelphi Theatre, where a concert, presided over by the Mayor of Lawrence, wns hold. Speeches were also given. The theatre was packed to the doors, and an enjoyable time was spent. The pioneers will visit Greymouth to-morrow, where they will be tho guests of tho Borough Council.
