Under charter to tho Fcderal-Shiro Line, tho lluninui is duo hero on Thursday, from Liverpool, via northern ports. She is brinying about 1200 tons of cargo for thie port. Tho Waitomo is due to arrive, next week from Newcastle, via Bluff, and will subsequently complete discharge, at Oaniaru. The Waihora loft Singapore last Saturday for New Zealand, and is duo here on February 2. She will complete discharge at Lyttelton and Auckland. Tho Flora ie duo hero to-morrow from tho West Coast, via Timaru. Sho will sail the following day on her time-tablo running to the West Coast. Tho Star of Ireland is duo here on January 24 with 600 tons of New York cargo After completing her discharge sho will proceed to Nelson to land tho remainder of her cargo. Tho Storm completed her survoy and overhaul at Port Chalmers yesterday, and after having her compasses adjusted she came up to Dunedin to loud cargo. She sailed last night for Oainaru. Tho Pohcrua will be floated out of dock this afternoon, and her place will bo taken by tho tug Plucky. Advantage will bo taken of tho opportunity to lay the keol blocks for the Bluff dredge,Murihiku, which is now duo for her annual overhaul and survey. TJio Moeraki camo out of dock yesterday aitornoon, and steamed up to town to load cargo. Sho will eail to-morrow afternoon for Sydney, via Cook Strait. A steamer will leave New York on February 9, under tho auspices of tho A. and A. Line, for New Zealand ports, via Australia, and will be followed by another cargo steamer sailing from New York on March 2.

Under charter to tho Tyser Line, tho cargo steamer Hemik Ibsen is timed to leave New York on the 21st inst. for New Zealand porte, via Australia. It is stated that Madame von Bauditz, wife of a prominent scientist in Copenhagen, has qualified ns a sea captain, and will command a steamer of 3000 tons, tho first of a new lino, of which she is one of the directore.

Tho steamer Ascot, announced some days ago as chartered to load guano at St. Pierre for New Zealand, eailed from Delagoa Bay some time back and is due at Auckland about the end of this month. Her cargo comprises 7000 tons, 4000 tons being for Auckland, and the remainder for Timaru and Bluff.

It is reported that fines totalling 4800 dollars have been imposed recently by the United States Department of Commerce on the owncre of 48 American steamers for not carrying the requisite number of mates. Tho fines in each case amounted to_ 100 dollars. The owners contend that it is impossible to comply with the law as there is a dearth of officers, and they cannot secure the necessary mates to comply with the Act.
