The directors of the Wellington Publishing Company on Wednesday decided to recommend the payment to shareholders of a dividend of 5 per cent, for the year ended Soptember 30. One hundred and ninety-four ratepayers in tho Napier Harbour Board district were proceeded against at the court last week for failing to pay their rates. However, by the time the' cases were called on most of the offenders had "paid up," but in 18 instances judgment went for the board by default.

An exciting incident happened near Mangatiti on Tuesday. Tlie Pahiatua-Pongaroa, mail coacl", bound for Pongaroa, received tile full strength of a gale when rounding* Windy Point, and was blown over. The occupants of the coach, however, luckily managed to escape withoijt injury. TJio coach also, it is reported, did not sustain any serious damage, the vehicle being won righted again, and the journey to Pongaroa being continued without further interruption.
