Southland could boast last season of some promising young athletes, and should these develop "in a manner which might be expected from their performances, we should get together a strong representative team. It .looks as if our strength would-again be in the field events, but there is hopo of some''Sprint runners and distance runners improving . this year, and perhaps also a walker. ■ With evoning si>ortß • most likely at In'vercargill, Otnutau, Winton, and Riverton, tho provincial chauipionsliips at Otautau,! the New Zealand championships probably at Dunedin, and the visit of the American team to Invcrcargill, and perhaps an annual sports meetins by each of the affiliated clubs, the season ought to bo a record one from a competitive point of view.

A number of athletes have already commcncod training locally and at Otautau. It is good news to hoar tJiat Keddol is going to don t.ho spiked shoe-again this season, and this news is not only welcome locally but to the whole of New Zealand.
