FINANCIAL NOTES.
UNION STEAM SHIP COMPANY REORGANISATION.

LONDON, August 23. The circular announcing the reorganisa* tion of the capital account of the Union Steam Ship Company was published in London this week, and has produced singularly little comment.. In recalling the fact that the company was- incorporated as far back as 1875, the Financial Times says that ite career lias been one of very considerable prosperity. The Standard comments:— "The scheme seom6 in many respects to be'a Rood one, md the new 5| por cent, preference shares should prove to be of quite an investment character." Fairplay and other shipping papers quote the circular without offering any opinion. BANK OF NEW ZEALAND. The Financial Times says: "Allowing for tho avowedly cautiouii policy pursued by the board in the granting of fresh advances, the report of tho Bank of New Zealand for tho year ondod March 51 contains «ome splendid figures From tho shareholders' point of view interest in the recent doings of the bank is dwarfed by curiosity over tho question of tho future relations of the bank with the New Ze&lsad Gvmmtesi."
