THE QUESTION OF VACCINATION.
Although vaccination has many opponents there can be little doubt that its efiicacy has bean amply demonstrated in many bad smallpox epidemics. The cases wheie it leaves any harmful after-effects are so few. as to be almost negligible. It largely depends upon the condition o£ the blood when vaccination is performed, and every precaution should therefore be U.ken to keep it healthy and free from external contamination. Open sores, festering -wounds, boils, or nil cuts and abrasions are _ avenues through ■ which microbes can invade the system.
