COMPULSORY ARBITRATION. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, September 1. (Received Sept 1, at 10.25 p.m.) The International Transport Workers' Congress discussed the question of compulsory arbitration. The speakers frequently quoted Australia. Mr Havelock Wilson said that in Australia the unions fared well without exception where they had smart men who put their case properly.
Mr Ben Tillett opposed compulsion on principle, but favoured its provisional adoption in order t.o educate the workers to fight capitalism.
A decision on the subject was postponed..
