HARRIERS.

The Pacific Harriers journeyed to Port C*&lmors on Saturday afternoon for the pur poso of walking to town, in order to enable those members who have entered for the road raoe next Saturday, to view tho course. There was a fair attendance, and the road was in fair condition considering the recent rain. On returning to town the inembcrs journeyed to St. Kilda, where they were the 'guests of Mr Dawson, Driver street. After removing all traces of tho walk the members eat down to a repast provided by the host, after which a social evening was-spent in music, eong, and recitation. Captain Scott, on behalf of the members, thanked Mr T. A. Dawson, Mr and Mrs G. M. Dawson, and lady, friends the very enjoyable evening spent. Mr T. A. Dawson suitably responded. The eighth annual Championship of the Dunedjn Club was contested on Saturday a t the Wingatui Racecourse. The track was. in fine order, and the weather conditions were ideal. . Ten competitors were sent oft the mark by the starter (Mr F, M. Reid). Tho course was confined to the track,- this being circled two and a-half times. The field Tan well together for the first mile, ■the pace being very moderate. Wright aud Fyfe retired, and 'tho runners .gradually strung out, the order in passing the grand stand for the last round being—Barrett, Notman. Tweedy, Elder, Bundle, Breen, and Baird. Notman then assumed the lead and drew away from Tweedy and Barretts, Barrett's efforts to hokl him failing. Tho pace for the last mile was a cracker. On the last turn Elder challenged Tweedy and passed him, running into third pesition. Notman, running strongly, had no difficulty 'in annexing the championship. Barrett was about 100 yds behind, Elder the same 'distance away third, and at various distances came Tweedy, Bundle, Breen, and Baird. The time .was 17min feee. The Sealed Handicap, held in conjunction with tho race, resulted as follows:—W. Tweedy (50see), 17min lOsec, 1; It. Bundle (lminj,. l?min 17sec, 2; R. F. Baird (lmin 50sec), 17min 22sec, 3. Messrs A. C. Smith, B. Hewat, and C. F. Livingstone officiated as judges, and Mr F. M. Reid as timekeeper. The Cargill Road Methodist Harriers held, their weekly run from the Wakari Hall. Iho hares were 6. Kitchen and L. James, who took the paper round past, the golf links and across good country to the Helensburgh road, which was followed to the Halfway Bush sub-station. Here the trail turned up tho hill, and after circling through some dense scrub in tho vicinity of Ashburn Hall, cut' acrois the top of Eraser's Gully, and past Sonntag's. A good run home was obtained from hero along the Kaikorai Valley to the hall. At the £1030. of tile run the members were entertained at tea. by the young ladies of the Roslyn Methodist Church. The St. Joseph's Harriers hold their ran from Mar'yliill, Mominaton, as guests of Mrs Stone. The hares (O'Fiarrell, and Ahernj laid an excellent trail. Tho puck was i-it chargo of Tracev, with Bryan as deputy. The trail led down Hawthorn roid in tlio direction ot tho Reservoir, passing over excellent crow-oountrv to' Groen Island, owning on to the Main SoutHi road. wh : eh was followed home. .Afterwards tho harriers were entert,lined at tea, end a'most enjoy--1 ab'e musical evening. Sixteen membr-rs wore present the rnn of the Y.M.C.A. Harriers from tho residence of Mr G. Hiirtie, Duncan street. R. M'G-regor and G, B.
