In endeavouring to reach Falmouth today, in order to complete the circuit before 9.30 on Thursday morning, Hawker was delayed an hour after leaving Oban by a leaky float, and later lost throe hours through engine troubles. His difficulties culminated in an accident at Lough Shining, whore a wing snapped and the machine fell 100 ft into the sea. Hawker fractured his arm and injured his head.

Kauper, his mechanic, was only slightly hurt, and the coastguards rescued and conveyed him ashore, where he v&s attended by doctors.
