DUPLICATE VOTING.
Allegations made of duplicate voting at the recent general election to the Commonwealth Parliament have all been confirmed by. a special official investigation which was reported on this week. However, it is shown that matters were bad enough. Nearly 60C0 cases of duplicate voting have been discovered. At the same time it has not been determined what proportion of these cases represented deliberate fraud, or hoir many are to be accounted for as due to iuere blundering. As it is conceivable that a hundred fraudulent duplicate votes cast in an electorate might affect the result of aai election (in some instances the voting wa6 very close), what is disclosed by the special investigation is causing grave disquiet, and the new Minister of Home Affairs finds hearty support for his expressed intention to bring about administrative changes which will make for better checks on fraud and error. Some people are strongly urging that there should be adopted for Federal .elections the system of issuing electoral rights which was at one time in force in this State.
