HARBOUR BOARD REPORTS.

The following report by fho engineer will be presented to tho Harbour Board at its meeting to-night :— Dredging.—Dredgp 222 is completing the alterations and annual overhaul. It is expected that the dredgo will again be put in commission some time dining the present week. For tho time worked during July the dredge lifted 13,095 cubic yards (equal ,to 16 loads) from -the Vulcan's now pit and channel leading thereto, which wero deposited as followsJ2.2S2 cubic .yards in the bond south of Harrington Point, and 633 cubic yards at sea. During the month the dredgo steamed 418 miles and burnt 109 tons of coal. Dredge 404 is engaged part of tho timo deepening the Lower Harbour channel opposite Deborah Bay, and partly widening and deepening, Victoria channel in the vicinity of pile 5. ! _ During July tho dredgo lifted 18,360 cubic yards from the channel opposite Deborah Bay and 3603 cubic yards from tils cross channel, Lower Harbour, making a total of 21,960 cubic yards (eqmil to 61 loads), which were all deposited in the bend south of Harrington Point. During the month tho dredge steamed 545 miles and burnt 119 tons of coal. Dredgo Vulcan.—Tho installation of new pump, motor, etc., and annual overhaul of this dredgo are riearing completion, ajid it :s expected that it will bo put in commission during tho present week. For the timo worked during July, 1800 cubic yards were pumped from the back of the new pit into Lake Logan, tho length oi tho drive being 2166 ft. New Tug and Salvage Steamer.—Consequent on the inclemency of the weather (ho work on the hull is progressing slowly, but v tho construction, of boiler and internal fittings are being pushed on. The drilling ot boiler is neaviy completed, and combustion chamber ready for fitting. The windlass and capstan are in.position, atid steam and exhaust pipes aro getting fitted. The salvage pumps aro in position,. and necessary piping is under construction.' The bridge deck stanchions are ready for dock beams. Tho ■ hardwood , belting is ' being "tied to tho hull, and the mast is ready for shipping. The joinery work in connection with tho crow's quarters and teak skylights is well forward. As soon as the ''weather moderates tho stern tubes will be lined off, machined, and bolted to hull, so that the propeller shafts may be placed in position beforo launching tho steamer. Dock Crane. —This crane is proving invaluablo in expediting repairs to tho" s.s. Indrubarah, and it is gratifying; to learn that tho steamer's officers aro unanimous in the praise of il.< utliity, the crano being easily tlio most servicoabie they have eecu Various Works-Black Jack's wall': Good progress is being made at this work, l'or tho hvo weeks ended August 13, 4780 cubic yards were placed on the wall, making a total of 36,154 cubic yards to that date. The extension of tho wall in the fivo weeks amounted to 154 ft, making a total of 1962 ft of wall in position. Sunshine quarry: Work at this quarry is confined to quarrying operations and grueling the track leading to tho -viaduct, the conBtrucfcion of which is being pushed ahead. Seven hundred feet ol this viaduct 'has been completed. Boiler Point wall: This work is steadily advancing. For a period of five weeks ending August 16, 2609 cubic yards of gtono wero placed on the wall, making a total to that date of 6916 oubic yards. Tho extension of the wall in the live wooks amounted to 49ft, making a. total of 183 ft of wall in position. Harbour master's offices: These offices have been completed, and aro now occupied by the harbour master's staff. Pilot cottages: Work at these cottages has progressed rapidly during the present month. At present work is conlined to painting, papering, and fixing fittings. Tho workmanship throughout, has been,highly satisfactory. Leilh canal: The north wing wall, 40ft of tho main north wall, and 160 ft of oonereto foundation !uve been put in position, and tho buttress piles for this wall have all been driven. The transporting of the sheet piles with a view to driving these piles in position has olso been commenced. Victoria wharf breast-

work: A start Laa been made to manufacture the reinforced concrete piles for this work. Verandahs: The verandahs fronting X and V sheds havo been completed, 'with tlie exeception of painting. Formation of roads ana levelling off sections: Good progress is being made at this work, and, a large area has been lcvollcd off, Victoria channel piles: No. 1 red pile has been replaced.
