Monday, July 28.' (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) Drunkenness.—'William 'lhomas pleaded guilty to being drunk in Muclaggan stroei on baturday, and was lined &s, in default 24 hours' imprisonment,—For a similar offence in Princes street Thomas Farrell was lined 10s, or 48 hours' imprisonment—A first olt'ender, who had been admitted to bail and who did not appear, was tilled tile amount of his bail (life), in default 48 hours' imprisonment. A Troublesome Woman.—Margaret Norton was charged with misbehaviour while undergoing a term, at the Salvation Army Reformatory Home at Caversham.—Sub-in-spcctor Foully stated that the defendant left tne home on two occasions and returned under the influence of liquor. Oil the second occasion 6he used bad language to the matron of the homn.—After hearing cvidenoo the Magistrate said that in oruer to give tho defendant a chance he would enter a conviction againsi her and order her to come up for sentence when called upon. Theft.—John Lister pleaded guilty to a charge of being drunk on July 26, and with stealing a bottle of olives, the property of A. and J. M'Farlane.—ln answer to the Magistrate the accused said lie did not know what made h:m. do such a silly thing. Ho had not been before the court previously. He had evidently had too much liquor—On the charge of drunkenness the accused was lined ss, or 24 hours' imprisonment-, and on the charge of theft 20s, with expenses (6s), in default seven days' .'mprisonment. A By-Law Case.—Walter Stevens pleaded guilty to riding a bicycle in High street on July 11 without a light, and was fined 6s, with costs (7s). Maintenance.—James T oseph Farrell appeared to answer a charge of having failed io comply with an order to contribute towards the maintenance of his brother. He stated that he had only been able to pay £1 since the adjournment a month ago owing to sickncss. He was prepared to pay another £1 into court, and he hoped to wipe off the balance soon—The Magistrate adjourned the case for a further .month on the understanding that the amount owing would be paid. Anthony Farrell did not appear to answer a similar charge, and he was sentenced to two weeks' imprisonment with hard labour, to be released on paymeat of arrears amounting to £2 7s 6d.
