WORKS NEARINO COMPLETION,
SOME FACTS AND FIGURES.
At a meeting of the Works Committee of the Dunedin Drainage Board held on Monday night, a remit was submitted by the chairman of the committee (Mr Small) and the engineer (Mr Slinger) concerning the present position of the works, 'Ihe remit stated that as the board's operations were now approaching completion, and as those works already authorised would be finished in about three months' time, the sub-committee, as requested, had considered the position, and had now lo recommend the works committee to authorise the going on with the remaining portion of the scheme as detailed 1 below. After consideration, the proposals, as formulated by Mr Small and the engineer, were approved by the Works Committee, and will come before the next full meeting of the board for final adoption. Kaikorai Drainage. In addition to the foregoing amounts there lias to be added :— Drainage of portion of Roslyn situated in Kaikorai watershed —Separate system reported on by engineer on 4th July, 1907, the cost of which is £26,000.. Or combined system, being temporary provision No. ■ 3 in report dated 11th February, 1913, £44,315. Total Amount.
It will therefore be seen that the amount to be found during the next three years will be either £67,345 or £35,660, according to the scheme adopted for the drainage of Roslyn. So far as the Kaikorai drainage scheme is concerned this matter had been held over until such time as an answer has been received from the bodies interested as to what their intentions arc in regard to the proposals. Financial Position of the Board.
The Chairman of the board states that there is a balance of £15.000 from the last £100,000 loan. Of this balance the board has £6,000 in hand, while £9,000 lias been advanced to the general account to pay interest. Before the money available has been exhausted, however, the Empowerng Bill enabling the board to increase its rate of interest will have passed through the House, and a, greater demand will then be created for the board's debentures. ■ Mr Arkle stated, in conclusion, that the financial position of the board was in a very sound condition.
