ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS' SOCIETY.

The. fortnightly meeting of the Dunedin Accountant btuaenV Society was held in the Chamber of Commerce laei evening. Mr li. H. Sykes (president) was in tne chair. A lccture on the subject of " Auditing" given by Mr T. It. Thompson.The lecturer outlined the course of an audit from its commencement to the conclusion. lie dealt with the merits of continuous' as against periodical audits. Cash books, rougli cash books, bank deposit receipts, day book, journals, ledgers, and bill books were fuliy treated by the lecturer, and the responsibilities and duties of an auditor were illustrated at length by Mr Thompson. The necessity of making provision for proper depreciation was impressed upon the meeting, whilst reference wasmado to the question of " goodwill" and " reservos."

At the conclusion of an interesting address a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Thompson.
