"I can guarantee that nino out of ten bicycles the polico do not recover aro altered beyond recognition by dishonest dealers," said a polico officer to a representative of tho Times last week. The remark was apropos of a suggestion that it would be opportune this season for Parliament to amend tho Second-band Dealers Act to include cycle dealers. He said that if a cycle dealer were compelled to keep a record of all cycles bought or exchanged the police would have no difficulty in tracing the numberless lost cycles daily in Christchuroh. Two or three losses wero reported every day, and the polico were continually on the hunt. The suggested amendment would protect 3ione6t dealers and uncloak those who were making a business of stolen cycles.
