BOWLING

DUNEDIN CENTRE. The following are the chief items in the annual report of the Dunedin Centre of tho New Zealand Bowling Association:—';. The membership of olubs is the same as iast year (18), and tho membership totals 1130, an increase of 5 on last year's figures. This season wo are likely to have at least one other club with us—the Ravensbourne Club. The wet weather experienced wan the causo of some of the matches between clubs not being played. Most of the clubs only played 14 or 15 matches; three played 16. At a special meeting held last year a, resolution was carried by a majority of 4— "That each club play, every other o!ub." Mr Sutcliffo, of the Kaituna Club, moved that tho fixtures be limited to 12 matches, but this proposal was not favoured by the majority of the delegates. The experience of tho Jast two ycare has 6hown that it is a matter of groat difficulty to <ret in 17 games in the season,' and it is felt that the time is now ripe for 6orac arrangement that will reduce the number of playing Saturdays. Two different schemes have been thought out by prominent bowlersMessrs Balk and Allnutt,—and these proposals have been sent to the delegates with the request that they should explain tho' proposals to the members of their clubs and receive instructions as to how members wish them to vote. When tho new delegates are appointed ono of tho first things to decide will bo the number of games to be played for tho incoming season. Tho banner was won by tho Kaituna Club after a strenuous strugglo with tho Green Island Club. The North-East Valley Club headed tho list of winners of matches played on Wednesdays with a record of 9 wins and 3 losses, and it was followed by tho Caversham Club with 5* wins and 4 losses. The following i.i a record of matches played during the season:—

This is'.-a record for tho dominion for a centre tournament. The players were favoured with fine weather, except on Saturday, which was an unsatisfactory day for playing, but bowlers made light of the weather conditions and stuck to their games, thus helping the eSecutrve in a difficult position. A special meeting of delegates was held on September 30 to deal finally with tho question of amalgamation. It was pointed out that tho. majority of the other centres in the South island had agreed to amalgamation, and that nothing was to be gained by Dunedin Centro standing out. After some discussion a motion—" That the centre approves of the principle of amalgamation "—was agreed to. The constitution of the Dominion of New Zealand Bowling Association states that tho first tournament is to be held in Dunedin We regret to stato that the intorcentre matches with the Christchurch and Southland Centres had to be postponed last year. The champion-of-champions competition was played on the two-life svstem. ; Mr E. Harraway, of tho Dunedin Club, after somo ha.rd-fought contests, proved to be tho winner of this contest. The runner-up was Mr J. M'Gurdv. of the St. Kilda Clnb. The centre commenced with a balance in hand and in the savings banlc of jf>s3 16s 9d, and closes with a credit balance of £58 10s 6d.

ROSLYN CLUB. The ninth annual meeting of the ehareholdors of the Roslyn Bon-ling Club waa held in the pavilion on Tuesday evening. There were present Mr Walter Gow (chairman) and 2s shareholders. The annual report and balanco sheet were adopted on the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr W. A. Wilkinson. Tho report referred to the reduced number of membors, consequent upon wet scaspne, and the establishing of new clubs on the hills. Tho income had, of course, suffered, but a special effort had been made, and subscriptions, and the proceeds of a futet-class concert, had materially improved the financial position. Reference was made to the excellent work of the caretaker (Mr Todd), and also to the billiard table, the ,cost. of which was being gradually liquidated. Messrs R. H. Scott and \\'m. Wilson were tie retiring directors, and, tho former having expressed a desire to stand aeide for a time, Messis Win. Wilson and W. A. Wilkinson, the new president, were duly elected. Mr D. Leslie was re-elected auditor. The annual meeting of the club waß afterwards held. There were about 40 members present. ~.,.-. The report was adopted. Mr Wilkinson was elected president; Messrs Howard and J. Scott, vice-iiresidcnts; S. H. Wood, G. Simpson, G. Clark, A. M'Dougall, and A. Blackwood, a General Committee; J. H. Matheson, hon. secretary (re-elected); J. Cameron, sole selector (re-elected); A. M'Dougall. G.' Clark, and. J. Cameron, Green Committee; W. Nicolson and W. A. Wilkinson, delegates to the centre. A long discussion took place over the club ties, but ft was eventually agreed to decide them by the two-life system. It was decided that those entering 'for t.hs Champion Singles could not enter for tliQ Handicap Singles, and vice-versa. •;>

It was unanimously resolved to instruct the delegates to vote for the Balk scheiiio of interclub play. . ' >>
