Pearce states that he wa6 never fitter. He expects to lead at the start. He said he found the Thames less buoyant ard the ■water strange for.a time. He prefers the ealter Paramatta, but he has now accommodated himself to the change. He does not anticipate any difficulty from the intricacies of the course. Pearce added that he appreciated the treatment and assistance he had received in England'. TheTe is little betting. Barry is slightly the favourite. July 19. (Received July 20, at 5.5 p.m.) Sporting Life says the all-important question is: " Will Pearce be able to get 60 fa.r ahead in the first one and a-half miles without exhausting himself too much and then have the energy to regulate his pace according to Barry's?'' Tearce is bound to feel the pressure of Barry's consistent pace after leaving Hammersmith.
