THE lEONY OF FATE.

Press Association—By Telegraph-rCopjright,

MELBOURNE, July 18. A poor widow, ignorant of Tacing, entrusted a youth who was going to the recent Flemington races with a sovereign to invest 10s eacli on two rank outsiders. On learning from a newspaper that both the horses had won she became so excited that she was seized with a fit and died. The irony of it all lies in the fact that the widow's son met the youth at the races. and persuaded him to invest liis mother's money on favourites, both of which lost.
