CAPETOWN, July 17. It i 6 officially stated that the investigation at Johannesburg shows that a large proportion of the wounds inflicted during the recent riot were caused by revolvers and shot guns, the ammunition for which had been looted' 1 by hooligans.
STRIKERS' DEMANDS
JOHANNESBUEG, July 18.
(Received July 18, at 11.20 p.m.) The strikers' demands, which have been presented to the Government, include 10 days' annual holiday, apart from the three public holidays under the Factory and Workshops Bill.
The demands will be referred to the federated trades before their introduction in Parliament.
Various claims are made for higher wage 6 and overtime for night and Sunday
The immediate demands stipulate that underground -work which can be done on the surface shall be made illegal on the ground that it is injurious to health.
The Tailwaymen demand a consolidated (system of wages throughout the union, and make specific claims regarding rates and a permanent inquiry board.
The strikers demand a conference with the authorities, and insist on the Government replying by the 23rd inst.
