The Juno number of tho Century Magazine which ifi to hand, contains some 170 pages of excellent reading. This issue is known as tho " Travel Number," and tJio oontcnte are wider in scope and,' if possible, of a higher standard of merit. "Tho Great St. Bernard" is an article dealing with thio famous paw in tho Alpine regions of Switzerland, and the history of tho hospice and the brotherhood that has played such an important part in the past. . _ A chapter of the training of Japanese ohildreu is a feature of the number, and deals with a system which, despite its faulfe, has produced men splendidly brave'and noble, and women whose lives dand for all that is tender and beautiful in womanhood. and mothorhood. The special articlo on American political history deals with Tho HaycsTilden contest, and is a reply to Colonel Watterson's article in the May number of the Century. Robert Hichcns contributes another chapter to his eeries " Skirting tho Baikan Peninsula," this time dealing with the journey from Trieste to Constantinople. Another articlo of special interest is that treating with tho capture and education of elephants in India, the ilhistrations in connection with_ this being of a liijli standard. In addition there aro a number of 6hort fitorics and other articles on various subjects.
